What it’s actually like.
Ronkonkoma’s residential streets are largely postwar and later, with capes, ranches and split-levels making up much of the older stock and colonials and newer construction filling in after. Lots are generally modest and regular, most on gridded or gently curving streets with driveways, detached or attached garages on many parcels, and mature plantings on the longer-standing blocks. Expect variation in how much a given house has been reworked over the years: dormered capes, rear additions, finished basements and updated siding and windows are common, and two houses on the same street can present very differently. The hamlet sits near Lake Ronkonkoma, and the Long Island Rail Road’s Ronkonkoma station is a reference point for how buyers think about location within the area.
